Usable Products conducted a Design Workshop to design, prototype, and test the usability of the user interface for the Island ECN set of public investor tools. The workshop involved a multi-department team to ensure that every aspect of the development meshed and met business goals.
The team worked together to design, construct, and test the usability of a paper prototype of the UI. Changes were made to the user interfaces between user tests. The final user interface was a composite of several web browser windows.
Initial designs were sketched on our digital whiteboard; we tried several different models for how the UI could be designed. Together we discussed their merits and challenges, agreeing upon a design to be prototyped.

The team worked together to construct a paper prototype of the agreed-upon design. User testing with this paper prototype identified design challenges and drove changes between user tests.

After the design was fully user tested, Usable Products built a functional specification describing the user interface.

As you can see, the site Island launched looked and felt a lot like the final paper prototype. This method of prototyping is fast, collaborative, and extremely effective.
